4 Must to do Halloween activities
A celebration of Halloween is not that much spread in Denmark as it is in USA. However, I find every feast as a way to escape from the daily routine and make our life more full of joy and fun. Thus, I consider some of the MUST to do things (it may vary among families) before and during the feast in order to keep that spirit of a celebration. Halloween is not an exception 🙂 Here are some of our must to do Halloween activities.
Although the tradition of picking pumpkins is not popular in Denmark, however, it is a real joy and fun activity for kids as well as adults 🙂
An idea to search for a place to pick our pumpkins came up last, but I could not find a place to do that. A search this year has been accidental more successful. I managed to find a farmer that sells already picked pumpkins. As we arrived at his place, I have noticed a field full of pumpkins and asked if we could pick our own. That was a little bit strange request from us, however, he agreed with that and our experience began.
Our kid was super interested and happy walking around in the field and seeing all the variety and plenty of pumpkins. He has experienced a fun of picking his own pumpkin and understood that pumpkins do not grow in the shops.
The other benefit of this activity is a place, which is one of the best to capture happy family moments in this beautiful surrounding. Taking in mind that kids are not forced to express certain emotion, they just do it naturally. Finally, the whole process of picking pumpkins creates a festive mood and desire for more fun Halloween activities.
Thus, I believe it should be a priority in must to do Halloween activities in every family.
After picking pumpkins it comes a turn to carve and decorate them. We do this every year. My husband improves in it every year. His carved pumpkins are amazing. He does that using stencils found on the internet. I think that requires a lot of accuracy. I am not good at it 😀 I prefer to carve my pumpkin using my creativity and improvisation. In this way I really enjoy the whole process.
We are helping to our son to carve his pumpkin as it it too dangerous to use a knife. However, he decides the design of it. Moreover, as we finish with carving a pumpkin, he paints on it and decorates it with the stickers. He thinks it is a real fun and become even more happy when sees how we light all of our pumpkins up outside the house.
Making Halloween treats
This is a funny thing to do with your kids. There are tons of spooky treats ideas on the internet that kids are excited about. However, if you are searching for a healthier version of a sweet, than try Apple and squash pancakes. Use pumpkin instead of squash, and viola – you have a very delicious Halloween meal.
As my son gets Apple and squash pancakes quit often, I decided to make something more sugar included – a real treat for the kids – Halloween muffins 🙂
This is one of my favorite thing to do in Halloween. I am not crazy about that, however, a few small Halloween details in the house, definitely, reminds the time of the year and lights up our routine.
Last year I did Halloween jars with the lights in it and decorated my sons room with crafts made from a paper. You can also make autumn candle jar. This year I have used small cute pumpkins brought from the farmer to decote our dining table. I have also put some lights around the house to make it more cozy. Thus, it does not necessary to spend a lot of money on all the Halloween stuff. It is mainly up to your creativity and imagination. Ok, maybe sometimes also inspirational ideas from the internet 😀
