DIY hanging plant frame
Who said that frames can be used only for photos and paintings? We can easily divert them to make a beautiful and authentic home decor detail – DIY air/hanging plant frame.
In addition, DIY hanging plant frame has more benefits as it fits in any style of the home and could decorate any corner of your home. Whether it is bathroom, shelf in the office or living room or places where you could not put plants otherwise, such as walls. Finally, if you are one of those whose plants usually do not survive very long, then hanging plant frame is a perfect solution as plants require a minimum of care. Moreover, you can use a plastic plant instead and forget the watering at all.
Tools and supplies
- wooden panels (2 pieces in 30 cm length and 2 pieces in 10 cm length)
- screws (8 pieces)
- stick (I have used a wooden stick from the garden)
- glass container
- tape measure
- plastic plant (I have used a real plant)
- drill bits (10mm, 6.5mm, 3.2mm)
Step 1. Drill a hole in the top piece of a frame.
Using a 6.5mm drill bit, drill a hole in the center of the top piece of a frame.
Step 2. Drill 2 holes at the ends of two long pieces of a frame.
With a 3.2mm drill bit, make two holes at the ends of each long pieces of a wood that should be placed on the sides of a frame.
Step 3. Prepare your 4 drilled holes for the screws.
Optional. Take you 10mm drill bit and prepare drilled holes in the 2 step for the screws.
Step 4. Drill through the two long pieces of a frame to the shorter pieces of a frame.
Put your one long piece of a frame and top piece of a frame together and hold them. Using a 2.5 mm. drill bit, drill through already made holes in the long piece of frame to to the top one. Repeat the same at the bottom and with other side piece of the frame in the top and in the bottom.
Step 5. Screw your 8 screws.
Take your screwdriver and screws and screw them in each hole made in the long pieces of a frame (totally 8 screws). Now you are done with a frame.
Step 6. Prepare 4 sets of strings.
Cut 4 long pieces of strings and fold each of the strings out.
Step 7. Take your set of strings over on an extra twine.
Using an extra twine, take it over through the hole made in the top piece of a frame. Then take all 4 sets of strings over through the main (extra) twine.
Step 8. Take your twine and strings out of a hole.
Take a twine and take it over through the hole together with your 4 sets of strings.
Step 9. Place a stick in a loop and take extra twine out.
Step 10. Divide strings into 4 groups.
Divide the 8 pieces of strings into 4 groups of 2 and spread them out.
Step 11. Make a knot in each of the set.
Make a knot in each of the set. Knots should be at the same level.
Step 12. Make knots.
Place your glass container between the strings to check out how height you would like your glass container to hang. Once you done, take your container out. Then pick up the left string from one set of strings and tie it to the right string from the set next to it. Repeat this with all strings. Finally, make one more row of knots doing this step all over again.
Step 13. Check desired height and make a final knot.
Place your glass container and once it is centered, tightened and is at the desired height, put all strings together and make a final knot at the bottom of container. Cut the excess rope.
Step 14. Place a container with a plant to the net.
Take you container out, place your plant into container and put it back in into a net.
