DIY concrete candles

Lighting of candles provides home with the coziness, however, candle holders do their “job” without lighting them too. It is a nice and sometimes necessary attribute to decorate the house. If you are looking for a modern decor to your minimalist style, so concrete candles are an ideal choice for you 🙂
Candles, candles, candles – these I am obsessed with. Thus, this obsession has inspired me to search for new ideas to make candle holders. Since concrete has so many possibilities to use it for, especially for DIY concrete projects, that I easily fall in love with it. The DIY concrete candles described further are a perfect example of it.
Materials
- concrete
- water
- a plastic dome lid (I have reused the one that I brought from Starbucks)
- a small container to prepare concrete
- a small candle
- a Christmas tree ball
- a wax (from any candles you have; it may also be a leftover wax from old candle jars)
Tools
- Scissors
- Hobby knife
- a file or a sand paper
One-time Concrete Candle Holder
Directions:
Step 1. Take your dome lid and tape a hole in the bottom so that a concrete could not run away
Step 2. Following directions given on your concrete, mix water and concrete in a container
Step 3. Pour the concrete mixture into a dome lid
Step 4. Vibrate a dome lid slowly. It removes the bubbles from the mixture, makes the candle holder stronger and less likely to break
Step 5. Place a Christmas tree ball into a mixture, push and hold for few seconds and leave until it hardens
Step 6. When it is dry enough, it is time to remove the inner container carefully. Take off a tape from the dome lid’s bottom and using the scissors clip the edge of a dome lid. Push carefully a a harden concrete from the bottom
Step 7. Carefully take a Christmas tree ball out from a harden concrete
Step 8. Take a sand paper or a file and gently rub away on the sides
Step 9. Take a small candle and using the scissors take candlewick out. Do not throw away the wax from the candle.
Step 10. Take wax from few small candles (depending on how big or small is a hole, made with a Christmas tree ball, in your harden concrete), put in a glass container and melt it in a microwave
Step 11. Pour your melted wax in a candles holder’s hole. When a wax begins to harden, place a candlewick in the middle of it and hold until it stands by itself
Step 12. If a wax has run out, then take a scissors or a hobby knife and smooth the surface.
NOTE: I have called this concrete candles as one-time used, however, you can use it many more times. You can always refill a candle with a melted wax.
