Cabbage and bacon puff pastries
Puff pastry and a cabbage is something that I always have in my fridge to make cabbage and bacon puff pastries in case of the guests coming over or as an easy made snack for my kid’s lunch box. Moreover, the filling can be easily adopted to anyone’s taste depending on the resources you have in a fridge or imagination. Thus, pastries can be with or without bacon, with other veggies or have sweet filling in it as a marmalade.
- shredded carrot
- shredded cabbage
- tomato source
- a sheet of a fresh puff pastry
- 1 egg (for the top)
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Step 2. Stew shredded cabbage and carrots with a salt and pepper in a pan with a little bit of oil. Cook until soft. If the mixture consists of too much of water, take pan’s lid off, when it is nearly done to cook, so the the water could steam off.
Step 3. Roast bacon separately, add it to the cabbage and carrots mixture.
Step 4. Add a tomato source, oregano and stir it.
Step 5. Take your puff pastry and make circles using a small bowl or anything you have.
Step 6. When filling cools down, place a spoonful (depending on the size of your circles) of filling in the middle of each circle.
Step 7. Fold and close it with a fork and place them on a baking pan lined with a baking paper.
Step 8. Using a pastry brush, brush the pastries with the egg.
Step 9. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
